John and Lena Murray, Bridgeview founders

Dear Students, Teachers and Friends,

Some of you may remember the early days of Bridgeview, in the aftermath of 9/11, when our student body consisted of 12 adults and 2 kids. Now we have over 100 students. We have achieved quite a lot since then. Our students have exhibited at the Chelsea Art Museum, K-Place Gallery, Asian Cultural Center, ConEdison Learning Center and other venues. Many have been accepted to art colleges on generous scholarships (Art Institute of Boston, SVA, Pratt, FIT, Parson's, New York Academy of Figurative Art, PAFA, California Art Institute, just to name a few).

Many of Bridgeview teenagers are now studying at the prestigious LaGuardia High School of Visual and Performing Arts and Frank Sinatra High School.

Two of our alumni Ilya Mirochnik and Jim Sondow are full time students at the Repin Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in St. Petersburg, Russia. Repin Academy is the only remaining classical academy in the world today. It is highly competitive, and in the last 20 years, only 5 Americans have been accepted to study there, two of them came from Bridgeview. We hope that upon their graduation they will join our faculty and share their knowledge with others.

Our mission remains the same. We are grounded in the classical tradition when it comes to art training. We want to keep the school small and focus on those who are serious about becoming better artists. We especially welcome college graduates who feel that their school did not give them enough in terms of classical skills and technique. And of course, we are committed to bringing this wonderful classical tradition to children.

Bridgeview strength lies in its faculty. Their superb art training and their dedication to teaching is the best thing we can offer here. Aside from being a founder of this school I am also its former student. And I am extremely grateful for the knowledge and inspiration they gave me. Special thanks go to my husband John Murray and all of Bridgeview teachers including Samuel Kudish, Anna Rochegova, Polina Osnachuk, Galina Dubinskaya, Vitaly Patrov and Larisa Dekermendzhi.

~Lena Murray, Bridgeview founder and director.
